Aug. 14, 1929 - Aug. 11, 2001 Lifelong Central Park resident Albert "Bert" Fairbairn died of cancer Saturday, Aug. 11, 2001, in Providence St. Peter Hospital at Olympia. He was 71. Mr. Fairbairn was born Aug. 14, 1929, in Aberdeen to Henry and Anna (Church) Fairbairn. He graduated from Aberdeen High School in 1948. He attended Grays Harbor College, Indiana Tech at Fort Wayne and Portland University in Oregon, earning a degree in engineering in 1954. He served in the Army for two years. On June 8, 1952, he married Ina Dahlstrom in Aberdeen. She survives him in Central Park. Mr. Fairbairn had been project manager and a mechanical engineer for The Lamb-Grays Harbor Co. in Hoquiam for 25 years and retired in 1991. He had also been self-employed for more than 10 years. He was a life member of the Hoquiam Elks and a member of the Central Park Lions Club. He had also belonged to the Aberdeen Eagles and had participated in Boy Scouts of America. He loved golfing, building model airplanes, gardening and his cats. In addition to his wife, survivors include three sons, Chuck of Sunnyside, Ryan of Dundee, Oregon, and Tim of Aberdeen; three daughters, Shelley Masters of Central Park, Bonnie Cross of Hoquiam and Janet of Olympia; a brother, Joe of Milwaukie, Oregon; 17 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A memorial service is set for 11:00 a.m. Friday, Aug. 17, in St. John's Catholic Church at Montesano. Arrangements are by the Whiteside Family Mortuary in Aberdeen. Entombment will be in Hoquiam's Sunset Memorial Park. Donations in his memory are suggested to the American Cancer Society. |
