Shores Comprehensive Planning
"The art of
planning is to preserve order among change; and to preserve change among
order."
The City's Comprehensive Plan is being revised to not only meet state
requirements, but more importantly, to address the community's vision as we move
into the next century. Housing, transportation, open space, capital improvement,
shorelines and other issues will be addressed in the Comprehensive Plan. It is
the basis of the City's land use goals and policies and will be implemented
through revised development regulations. It is both the blueprint for the City’s
future development and a handbook on how to achieve it. A Comprehensive Plan
Advisory Committee (CPAC) comprised of community members has been established
along with Town Hall Meetings. Community interests will
become the foundation of this plan.
What will the
comprehensive plan do?
Shoreline Management in Ocean Shores
The Shoreline Environment in Ocean Shores is diverse. We have The Pacific Ocean...Grays Harbor...Duck Lake...The Canal System...Wetlands...Creeks and Streams.
One of the major components of the Comprehensive Plan will be a Shoreline
plan that will help us protect and manage our shoreline resources. Ocean Shores
loves its shorelines so much that it names itself after them. We have 140 feet
of shorelines for every resident of Ocean Shores. Compare that to 5 inches per
person in Santa Monica, California.
Our shorelines provide habitat for
wildlife, protect and add to the value of our property, allow access to our
precious and unique waterbodies, help build our economy and provide us with
aesthetic and recreational opportunities.
