Northwest Washington Quake Central Link to G.H. Online Community Events Calendar June 10, 2001 Here We Go Again... DID YOU FEEL THE EARTHQUAKE? Reportedly, this morning, Grays Harbor was hit with another earthquake at 6:19 a.m. The epicenter seems to be located at about 12 miles North of Satsop. Check back for more updates as they become available.   PREVIOUS UPDATE     We were been hit by a barrage of incoming e-mail asking us about rumors of an impending 9.0 earthquake predicted on television following the last earthquake. It seems that the prediction was watered-down by email and chat-rooms to initiate some type of panic. The Truth:     For those who are interested, Earthquake Prediction Specialist, Jim Berkland actually predicted another significant earthquake would hit the Northwest between March 7th and March 14th of this year with a magnitude in the range of 3.0 - 5.5. Visit Jim Berkland's Site for more info.   February 28th, at 10:55 a.m. Grays Harbor was shaken by a 6.8 Earth Quake. It was centered about 10 miles Northeast of Olympia, Washington. Preliminary reports indicate that severe damage has visited the building that houses The Silver Dollar Tavern on the corner of Aberdeen's Market and G streets. No report yet on damages that may have been felt by the County Courthouse which is still under repair from the last Earth Quake, but was closed early due to the Feb. 28 Quake with cases re-scheduled for tomorrow. Sea-Tac Airport was closed. No planes were allowed to land or take off. Some buildings at the airport have been evacuated. The Quake was felt as far North as Alaska and as far East as Salt Lake City. Reports say that an aftershock for this type of quake is unlikely. So we can rest a bit more comfortably now. Due to the Quake, locally: Aberdeen's Weatherwax High School Closed Hoquiam High School Closed Central Park Elementary Closed County Courthose Closed Montesano Senior Junior High School Closed Natatorium Closed All schools followed emergency procedures and did exceptionally well.
